Temagami Outfitting Company

Erik was good at selling us on on complete outfitting, but disappointing in producing it. Our gear wasn't ready as promised. Our food was missing critical items. We were disappointed with the service and will not use Temagami Outfitting for our next trip to the area.

I never do reviews but figure I'd give my 2 cents to help out other people planning a backcountry trip. First off, I had zero issues with Staff - super friendly and welcoming. Zero issues there. Figuring out who to talk to and where to go when you walk into the building is a bit confusing and not set up the greatest - but you'll figure it out. Most staff are easy to point out in there. The gift shop/store is lacking a bit but not totally horrible. For sure room for improvements and upgrades. We may of just came during renovations or something. Not a total issue for us, as we come with everything we need.To improve, I would extend hours like other outfitters do. Opening an outfitting store at 9am is a bit late for most outdoor folks that have a huge adventure ahead of them.. Not saying I need the canoe at 6am but 9am is cutting it. Closing the doors at 6pm is early in my opinion too but that wasn't an issue for us. Maybe they don't have the business to be open that long, but the hours aren't the most convenient or practical - especially for summer months. Perfect for fall hours but not summer.Another issue and biggest problem I had - I've used lots of outfitters from many different parks and areas in and around the backcountry and this was the first one I've came across that would not refund your money for returning your canoe early.. Again, they may not have the business. Which I get.. However, not issuing a refund on a full day after a $300 bill for 5 days is ridiculous. You would of had my business a second time, literally 3 weeks down the road from my last trip up there - but because of this policy, I decided not to rent a canoe for the week I'd be returning up there. That $52 refund would of had me come back and spend an additional $300 there, but because of this policy - I refuse to rent again.I've heard many great things about this place but I definitely wouldn't put it at the top for outfitters. Definitely room to grow and improve here for sure. Wasn't totally horrible, but not the best experience or policies in my opinion

Wow - we were so impressed by the service and experience with Temagami Outfitting! Everything was fantastic - from pre-trip communications to the warm welcome as we picked up our equipment to the easy return process. We’ve been tripping for years and this was hands down the best experience we’ve had with an outfitter. Special shout-out to the delicious breakfasts they prepared for us. We’ve never ordered meals from an outfitter before so we didn’t really know what to expect. The portions were generous and easy to prepare, and they catered to my vegetarian diet while having meat options for my husband. Eric took the time to chat with us pre-trip about our route and what to expect. We will definitely be back next time we canoe in the area.

Actually went for dinner on a Thursday and couldn't get the famous brisket...a bit dissatisfied...but the sampler plater was good.

I could not recommend them more. We have done one fully kitted tour and have since rented a canoe and dry packs for 3 other excursions. Extremely helpful, professional, and willing to provide guidance on various routes. We will continue to return to Temagami Outfitting Company for our yearly trip.

I had the pleasure of meeting Erik and his wife of Temagami Outfitters over the past weekend. Two weeks prior to arrival, Erik gave me his undivided attention and extended his absolute wealth of knowledge. From what to pack, what not to pack, to conditions and everything in between. His knowledge of Temagami is outstanding and this only comes from his 30+ years of spending time in the region. Tapping into his knowledge made the trip beyond my expectations. After our trip we had a gorgeous lunch at his lakefront patio restaurant with food that was outstanding. I also thoroughly enjoyed their Tripper ale that would shadow most ale beers out there. I cannot wait until my next visit when i can introduce my daughter into canoeing and portaging in one of the most beautiful places in Ontario, and arguably, in Canada. Keep up the amazing work Temagami Outfitters - you have a customer for life!

We worked with Temagami Outfitting for our summer trip through this incredibly rugged river/lakes region. Erik and Karen run a great reliable company, and really took care of us. Excellent equipment, expert advice, and very reasonable prices. Highly recommend!

After spending some time doing nothing during COVID lockdown we decided to head up to Temagami for a camping trip (when it was allowed of course) and Eric at Temagami Outfitting Company was a great help by giving some suggestions on which lakes and islands to camp on plus gave us some good tips and tricks. If you’re heading to Temagami and need a canoe be sure to contact TOC for all of your needs!

A must stop for anything Temagami related. Karen and Erik are professional, knowledgeable and very accommodating for any canoe trip you’d like. They know the area and will gladly chat with you over some delicious food and yummy cocktails.
